How to Download Your Audio Recording

Why audio recordings are streamed by default, how to request a downloadable copy, and what to do if downloading isn't working.

Audio on TheRecordXchange — streaming vs. downloading

When your audio request is fulfilled, recordings are delivered through the TRX Player — a web-based streaming player accessible from any device with an internet connection. By default, most courts provide access to recordings this way.

Whether a recording is also available to download as a file is a separate setting controlled by the court — not by TRX. Not all courts enable downloads, and some may have policies that restrict it.

Step 1 — Check if a download is available

If a downloadable version of your recording has been made available, you'll see a download (disk) icon beneath the player bar on the Player tab of your request. Click it to download the file to your device.

If you don't see the download icon, a downloadable copy has not been enabled for your request yet.

Step 2 — Request a downloadable copy

If you need a downloadable file rather than streaming access, you can request it directly through your order:

  1. Open your request and click the Messages tab

  2. Post a message to the court clearly stating that you need a downloadable copy of the recording

  3. Include the reason if relevant — for example, if you need to share it with an attorney, use it in a proceeding, or access it in a location without reliable internet

The court staff handling your request will review and respond. Keep in mind that whether a download can be provided is ultimately at the court's discretion.

Note: TRX Support cannot enable downloads on your behalf — this setting is controlled by the court.

Tips for using the streaming player

If downloading isn't an option and you need to make the most of the streaming player:

  • The TRX Player works best in Google Chrome — if you're having issues, try switching browsers

  • You can connect a USB foot pedal for hands-free playback control via the player menu

  • Use the playback speed control to slow down or speed up the recording

  • Individual audio channels can be muted to isolate specific microphones

  • Navigate to a specific time by clicking the Current Playback Time field and typing a timestamp
