TheRecordXChange (TRX) Minimum System Requirements

Browser, screen resolution, and display scaling requirements for Asgard and Request Central, with steps to check each one.

Written by Chris Shaw

Who this applies to

These requirements apply to both TheRecordXchange® (TRX) platforms:

  • Request Central, the public site where you create and track requests, make payments, and download completed transcripts and audio.

  • Asgard, the court platform where authorized court users search recordings, create designations, and work with VoiceCopy™ transcripts.

Both are browser-based. There is nothing to install.

If the screen looks blocked or frozen, if part of the page is cut off, or if a button, dropdown, date field, or section of text is missing or will not respond when you tap it, you are most likely using a phone, tablet, or other device (i.e. any small form factor) that has browser/screen dimensions that are below system requirements. More on troubleshooting here.

Browser: Google Chrome

TRX supports Google Chrome. Chrome 151 is the oldest version we test against. We recommend running the latest version, which Chrome installs automatically. There is no maximum supported version, so a newer Chrome is always fine.

Other browsers, including Safari, Edge, Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, and Windows Vista are not supported. For any browser outside of the ones listed on this page, it is not supported so please use Google Chrome. Audio and video streaming is the feature most likely to fail outside Chrome, but any part of the site may behave unexpectedly.

How to check your Chrome version

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Type chrome://settings/help in the address bar and press Enter.

  3. The About Chrome page shows your version number.

  4. If an update is waiting, Chrome downloads it on this page. Click Relaunch to finish.

Screen resolution

The minimum supported resolution is 1366 x 768. We recommend 1920 x 1080 or larger.

Below the minimum, the page does not shrink or rearrange itself to fit. Parts of it sit outside the visible area instead. Buttons, dropdowns, date fields, and entire sections can appear cut off, or look present but not respond when you click them.

How to check your resolution on Windows

  1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Display settings.

  2. Scroll to Scale & layout.

  3. Read the value under Display resolution.

How to check your resolution on a Mac

  1. Open the Apple menu and select System Settings.

  2. Select Displays.

  3. The current resolution is shown for each connected display.

Windows display scaling

What matters is not the resolution printed on your laptop's spec sheet. It is the effective width the browser actually has to draw the page in, and Windows display scaling changes that.

Scaling enlarges text and interface elements. It does not add pixels. A 1920 x 1080 laptop set to 125 percent scaling behaves like a 1536 x 864 screen. If things look cut off on a computer that meets the recommendation, open Settings, System, Display, Scale and set it to 100 percent.

This is the single most common cause of a cut off page on hardware that looks like it should be fine. Many Windows laptops ship with 125 percent or 150 percent set by default, so you can truthfully have a 1920 x 1080 screen and still hit the problem.

How to check and change Windows display scaling

Use these steps to set Windows display scaling back to 100 percent.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop and select Display settings.

  2. Scroll to Scale & layout.

  3. Set Scale to 100%.

  4. Return to TRX and refresh the page.

If 100 percent makes text uncomfortably small, leave scaling at 100 percent and enlarge text in Chrome instead. Go to chrome://settings/appearance and raise Font size. This enlarges text without reducing the effective browser width.

If you are choosing new hardware

Many current laptops use a 16:10 display such as 1920 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600. The extra vertical room is genuinely useful when working with the Asgard player and long recording timelines. This is a preference, not a requirement.

Laptop or desktop required

TRX is not mobile responsive. Phones and tablets are not supported for either platform, including iPads and Android tablets. Rotating a device to landscape sometimes brings a missing control back into view, but it is a workaround rather than a supported configuration. Complete your work on a laptop or desktop.

Browser zoom and window size

Even on a supported screen, two settings can push TRX content out of view:

  1. Browser zoom. Press Ctrl and 0 together on Windows, or Command and 0 on a Mac, to reset zoom to 100 percent.

  2. Window size. Maximize the Chrome window rather than running it in a partial window or side by side with another application.

Quick self-check for a TRX display problem

Run through these five checks before reporting a display problem on Request Central or Asgard:

  1. You are on a laptop or desktop, not a phone or tablet.

  2. You are using Google Chrome, version 151 or newer.

  3. Your resolution is 1366 x 768 or higher.

  4. Windows display scaling is set to 100 percent.

  5. Browser zoom is 100 percent and the window is maximized.

Getting help with a TRX display problem

If you have worked through the checks above and a TRX page is still cut off or unresponsive, here is where to go.

For Asgard sign-in and access questions, contact your court administrator. Court administrators control who has an Asgard account and what each account can see.

For everything else, including Request Central, contact support@trxchange.com. Please include:

  1. A screenshot of what you are seeing.

  2. Your screen resolution and display scaling percentage.

  3. Your Chrome version.
